Makeover: Becky’s SOHO(so-homey) apt.

Becky & I spent Saturday at Ikea in Redhook blowing through most of her $2500 decorating budget.  Here she is with Mike, her Ikea design angel, selecting components for her “Besta” storage system.

She decided to trade in her queen size bed for a full size model in order to gain some much- needed floor space & a cozier night’s sleep.

We sketched a “floorplan” with accurate measurements and furniture placement for her new decor. Becky can access the scan from her iphone, so now she can troll the flea markets of Vermont without having to wonder “if that cow painting on velvet will fit nicely above my entry table”.

Makeover schedule:  Becky’s super is painting her apartment on Thursday with clean, cool shades that reflect her style.  ”No more dingy white walls!”  Her Ikea bed and storage system are being delivered on Friday.  Next week we’ll meet to talk about fabrics & rugs and to create some diy shelving, storage & wall decor.  Before and after pix to follow soon!

I would love to see a picture of the Besta storage system after it is built. Will you post it?

    Thanks,

    Mike (the design angel)

Indeed, my So-Homey redesign has begun! I never thought it would actually happen. On my end — i’ve ordered a new shower curtain from Target, I’m searching for slipcover options for the old but comfy love seat (a new one aint in the budget), and I’ve narrowed down a list of wallpaper samples that when framed and mounted = colorful affordable art for my empty walls (thanks ADD for the inspiration!)

Of course Mike! Glad to see you made it to the site. I’ll be posting side by side before and after pictures of everything we change in Becky’s apartment. Please leave a comment here when those sliding doors are back in stock! I’m sure it will be worth the wait to have all of the hidden storage that the Besta system provides. We’ll stop by right away to pick up the doors and complete Becky’s makeover. Then we just have to put it together and take photos.

If you sign up for the RSS feed, you’ll get automatic updates on Becky’s SOHO So-homey makeover. All best, ADD

We’re painting! Final colors: ’skeleton key’ blue in the living room/entry, ‘creme fraiche’ (pale yellow) in the bedroom and ‘whisper violet’ in the bathroom. Went with low-voc in the bedroom because that’s where i do most of my breathing. ADD tried to convince me to toss the old clunker tv now while i search for a used flat panel to replace it. I said no way – but perhaps God was on her side bc the cable box died last night. Guess it’s good timing then to give away the old TV!
