Project: DIY pot rack
Scott added this stainless steel rod last weekend to our custom kitchen shelving. Â The open shelving with a long pot rack was one of the cornerstones of our kitchen design. Â It’s definitely convenient to have pots and pans within easy reach of the stove and not taking up precious cabinet space. Â The rod was thirty [...]

Outhouse chic bathroom
The outhouse chic bathroom is still a work in progress. Â But I’m loving my long soaks in the vintage claw foot tub. Â The reproduction shower set came from Vintage Tub & Bath and it works great.
The reclaimed mushroom wood wainscoting will get a second coat of milk paint to calm it down a [...]

Project: custom drawer dividers
Scott is busy in his art studio today building custom dividers for our new kitchen drawers. Â He’s using three inch poplar pieces, wire brads (tiny nails) and a dab of wood glue. Â This is definitely a “measure twice, cut once” kind of project.
It remains to be seen whether we will paint the dividers. Â Â Right [...]

Let’s face it, decades old furniture tends to be of better [...]

Inspiration: silkscreened fabric
I was shopping for milk paint over at Brooklyn General when I came across this fabulous silk screened fabric. I thought, “oh, wouldn’t that be lovely for some DIY upholstery on my dining room chairs”. Â But then I found out that it was imported, handmade and WAY outta my price range. Â Ah well… Â It was [...]

Stripping the feet for our clawfoot tub
Our small guest bathroom is being renovated on an even smaller budget with vintage charm. Â I bought a 100 year old iron clawfoot tub at Olde Good Things in Manhattan. Â I got a good deal on a rare 4.5′ tub with its porcelain surface in excellent condition & a smoothly painted exterior. Â But the claw [...]

Wish list: Wallpaper
Oh how I wish I could paper my whole apartment in vintage fabulousness! But for now, I’m content with ordering two rolls of this  Cole & Sons print for one wall of our master bedroom.
Flooring will be sisal carpet, hardware is brushed nickel, bed linens are white, walls are ???… Â Please leave paint color suggestions [...]
makeover: SOHO apt. on the cheap
My friend Becky has asked me to design her DIY apt makeover. It is a one bedroom rental with original tin ceilings & loads of potential. Her budget is $2500. We are heading to Ikea on Saturday for cheap storage solutions and to Lowes for some bold & beautiful paint. Stay [...]
