The Hunt: Junkyard Chic
I don’t have any pretty photos today, so I’m just going to show you some quick pix of my latest junkyard find. Â I bought this solid wood vintage medicine cabinet with original beveled mirror ($60) on a recent Brooklyn thrift store junket and quickly sprayed it white so that I could hang it over my [...]

A Bathroom Love Affair
I was just clicking through the June/July issue of Lonny (I know, I am so behind) and I noticed this black bathroom.  I thought if I put it on the same page as my bathroom, the two would have a wild love affair and spawn some great ideas.
I just need more stuff in mine. Â And some [...]

Bathroom Renovation Revisted
It’s been two months now since the major renovation was completed and I needed a little “recovery” time before revisiting the construction photos. Â Even though our renovation was thoughtfully planned and quickly executed (by an allstar contractor), Â it was still traumatic. Â Renovation is generally a tough process for many reasons, amongst them: Â It displaces the [...]

Project: DIY Shower Curtain
When I was helping Becky decorate her rental apartment on a tiny budget, I found some great linen curtains at IKEA that  we purchased for her bathroom update.  I couldn’t resist buying some for my place as well.  It’s hard to find pretty fabric shower curtains that don’t cost a fortune, so I decided to [...]

Master Bath: From Blah to Ooh-la-la
Let me start by saying that Scott is right about 95% of the time in renovation matters, which is far better than my track record. Â But when it came to the master bath, he insisted on white walls above our white subway tile and he refused to listen to my nagging voice of reason for [...]

Outhouse chic bathroom
The outhouse chic bathroom is still a work in progress. Â But I’m loving my long soaks in the vintage claw foot tub. Â The reproduction shower set came from Vintage Tub & Bath and it works great.
The reclaimed mushroom wood wainscoting will get a second coat of milk paint to calm it down a [...]

Working toilet in the master bath!
Anyone who has lived through a renovation knows that it’s an exciting day when your new toilet gets installed and you hear the sweet sound of a low-flow flush. Â It was a big week at our brownstone construction site with lots of progress made. Â The tiler, plumber and electrician were working overtime. Â Both bathrooms and [...]

B & W bathroom tile
The tile is about 50% installed in our garden level master bathroom. Â They will use a stain-resistant white grout on the subway tile. Â The hex tile floor was grouted with a dark charcoal grey, but it looks lighter than I thought it would be. They haven’t wiped the floor down yet after grouting, but the [...]

outhouse chic in our vintage bathroom
Here is a preview image of our white-washed, mushroom wood wainscoting for the soon-to-be installed guest bath. Â Scott said, “It will look like a shed with a toilet in it. Â Let’s carve a half-moon in the door.” Â I prefer to call it Outhouse Chic.
This post comes right on the heals of my “happy accidents“ post- um, yeah. [...]
