The Hunt: Slipper Chairs

Now that our renovation is finished, I’m on the hunt for some great textiles and upholstery to infuse color and texture into our home.  But I’m also on a very tight budget.  I’ll be sharing some of the bargains I come across along the way.  These vibrant slipper chairs at Target are a pretty good [...]

Chartreuse and Grey

I ordered this Dwell Studio duvet from Target a few days ago for our master bedroom.   It’s so hard to know what you are getting from Target online, but the reviews of this item were great and it was (ahem) cheap.  I hope it will look nice with our gray walls (?).  Here’s the [...]

The Hunt: Vintage Buys At The Brooklyn Flea

I hope everyone had a spectacular 4th of July weekend!  Scott and I spent it here in HOT Brooklyn because he’s furiously making new work for a show on August 6th and I’ve been busy on a fun freelance project.  Here are a few pix from my recent visit to the Brooklyn Flea in Fort [...]

This 1970's chair is another Granny goody.

Project: DIY Furniture Facelift

I received such positive response to my latest post about spiffing up Granny’s couch, that I wanted to write about another of Granny’s pieces, a 1970’s Chippendale style chair.  This faux bamboo chair had a black lacquer finish and a tan leather seat when it came my way a few years ago.  It was handsome, but [...]

Granny’s Sofa Gets A Facelift

Two years ago, when Scott and I married and bought our apartment, neither of us had a sofa that was worth the back ache of moving, so we immediately started shopping for a comfortable, quality, down-stuffed sofa for our living room that would last for years to come.   After test driving snazzy sofas at [...]

my bathroom isn't big enough to get a shot of the full curtain, so here's the bottom half!

Project: DIY Shower Curtain

When I was helping Becky decorate her rental apartment on a tiny budget, I found some great linen curtains at IKEA that  we purchased for her bathroom update.  I couldn’t resist buying some for my place as well.  It’s hard to find pretty fabric shower curtains that don’t cost a fortune, so I decided to [...]

Butterfly Jubilee wallpaper from mod green pod

wishlist: whimsical wallpaper

I love this wallpaper from Mod Green Pod .  It’s perfect for a girl’s bedroom or a powder room, but I might just try it framed on a wall.  Mod Green Pod is based in Austin and while they only have a handful of wallpaper and fabric prints, each is eco-friendly and designed to inspire.

hand silkscreened fabric from Australia

Inspiration: silkscreened fabric

I was shopping for milk paint over at Brooklyn General when I came across this fabulous silk screened fabric. I thought, “oh, wouldn’t that be lovely for some DIY upholstery on my dining room chairs”.  But then I found out that it was imported, handmade and WAY outta my price range.  Ah well…  It was [...]

"new heirloom" bedspread

project: heirloom bedspread

I love my family heirlooms. I literally cherish every dented baby cup, every threadbare quilt. But alas, these are in limited supply. Well I’ve just discovered a delightful pleasure- the New Heirloom. It started with a trip to Tulum in Mexico, where Scott and I became engaged. We couldn’t resist buying, at a local artisan shop, [...]
